They knew of his involvement with Cambridge, but the full extent of it became clear only as they began clearing out the house he built 48 years ago, and where he lived out his days.įirst and foremost, Peter was an ex-serviceman. That heart earned him a reputation for giving away pickled onions, jams and chutneys to anyone wanting them. “He had a big heart … he’d do anything for anyone.” People gravitated to him all his life, said his daughter Brenda Downie. The weeks leading up to his passing were shaped by visits from children and grandchildren, friends, neighbours, and a host of others keen to toast a life well-lived. There was no funeral – that was just the way he wanted it. Peter died at his Leamington home earlier this month. It didn’t stop him from putting down family roots and winning plaudits for the work he did for Cambridge over seven decades.

He is also keen to see Christianity free to proclaim its vital message to individuals, families and the nation, which will provide a positive influence in society. Peter has a strong commitment to family life, and to see families grow and prosper in Australian society.
He has also served on the Queensland Advisory Board, the Queensland Branch Committee and continues to serve on the Governing Board. Peter came to this role at FamilyVoice after sixteen years as National Treasurer. Other groups helped include Operation 513 street preachers, who faced opposition from opponents of the gospel. This case ultimately reached the High Court in a three-day trial. DL Legal represented Graham Preston in his battle against exclusion zones around abortion clinics. During this time DL Legal has been able to help many Christians needing help in our secular-humanist influenced legal system. Has recently handed over to his son to run. He then established and ran a law firm, DL Legal, which he Peter was a Senior Finance Analyst working with BHP Steel for 31 years.
